With its products for facade paint, plaster and building materials, Construction Chemicals is focusing on trends such as sustainability, energy saving, building protection and aesthetics. Individually tailored solutions are developed in eight Technical Centers worldwide, close to the customer. As market leader and inventor of silicone resin emulsion paints, the future lies in developing and opening up new markets. Cementitious materials are extensively used for various types of constructions, from high rise buildings to residential basement, foundations to bridges, roads and tunnels to industrial plants. Although cementitious products are mostly hard and dense, They are still by their very nature porous materials, therefore susceptible to water-induced deteriorations over time.
Organosilicon-based chemicals possess very diverse properties with virtually unlimited application possibilities. The hydrophobic agents based on organosilicons can line the capillary pore walls of cementitious materials via siloxane linkages, thus hydrophobizing the the whole mass. Furthermore, organosilicon hydrophobic agents are even capabale of hydrophobizing cement itself by covering the surfaces of cement grains, resulting in hydrophobic or water repellent cement. Thanks to such effects, water can well be kept away from the cementitious systems that are protected by organosilicon hydrophobic agents. Consequently, the water-induced deleterious processes can be greatly suppressed or avoided, rendering the system more durable.
